Pregnancy can be a joyous and exciting time, but it can also be an uncomfortable time. A common complaint of expectant mothers is lower back pain in early pregnancy. This may happen alongside other symptoms such as tender breasts, morning sickness and muscle aches. There are various reasons why so many moms to be experience back discomfort. One reason is the amount of progesterone in the body during the gestational period. Because progesterone softens the ligaments, discs and muscles there may be cramping, soreness and discomfort in the lower back area.

Another way to cope with lower back pain in early pregnancy is to check your sleeping position. Most often, pregnant women are advised to sleep on their left side, with a pillow between legs and the knees slightly bent.
